PROJECT CHALLENGE/SOLUTION
The LifeScience Logistics facility houses stockpiles of medicine and drugs for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC requires uniform temperatures and they ensure compliance by measuring temperatures throughout their facilities. The temperature must be set at 72F plus or minus 2F, year-round, wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling.
In high bay storage areas, it is difficult to maintain the adequate air distribution necessary to achieve temperature uniformity. Because this facility was built in an existing building with less-than-optimal insulation in the walls and roof, obtaining temperature consistency was even more challenging. Wiegmann’s solutions included packaged rooftop units and an extensive duct distribution system. We also installed a Delta Controls Building Automation System.
Because the project construction schedule was very short, we coordinated upfront with the general contractor, subcontractors and equipment vendors to meet the deadlines. This project was conducted concurrently with a LifeScience Logistics facility in Columbia, MD.
