Wiegmann Associates has hired Sam Blanner and Austin LaFave as Engineering Interns and John Winkler as Project Management Intern for the summer of 2024. Blanner is a student at Purdue University. Winkler and LaFave attend Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
All three interns will work alongside multiple full-time employees to gain direct exposure to their role and area of study. They also will attend industry events, participate in on-site project visits and engage with clients during sales and design meetings.
As a Project Management intern, Winkler will gain experience working alongside project managers for a diverse range of design build, new construction and renovation projects, both in the St. Louis area and nationwide. He will gain experience in all aspects of HVAC construction and HVAC installation for commercial and industrial facilities, including mechanical piping and sheet metal systems, HVAC equipment and temperature controls.
As Project Engineering interns, Blanner and LaFave will gain experience in the process of designing cost-effective, energy-efficient and high-performing mechanical HVAC systems by working alongside six of Wiegmann’s full-time engineers. Responsibilities include conducting HVAC building heating/cooling load calculations, interpreting and analyzing codes, designing ductwork and piping systems, selecting suitable HVAC equipment and performing energy consumption and demand calculations.
Each summer, Wiegmann hires multiple interns from universities. Many of these interns
have gone on to become full-time employees at the growing St. Louis-based mechanical engineering firm, which has approximately 115 employees.
