ST LOUIS, MO – Wiegmann Associates has begun HVAC work as part of an $18 million renovation and expansion project for the Brentwood School District in St. Louis, MO. As the mechanical contractor, Wiegmann is upgrading HVAC systems at the Brentwood High School and Middle School campus and installing new systems for a 17,000-square-foot expansion. K&S Associates is the general contractor and the architect is Ittner Architects. The project is expected to complete in the Summer of 2020.
As part of the plan/spec project, Wiegmann is replacing the interior components of the existing HVAC systems and entirely updating the HVAC systems in some of the buildings. Identifying and maintaining the order of operations of the old infrastructure is a primary project challenge. The configuration of the school district’s existing mechanical systems is especially complex because each building is conditioned with a different type of HVAC system from water source heat pumps and heat recovery units to rooftop units with VAVs.
Wiegmann is installing a new HVAC system to serve the expansion being built between the high school and middle school. The main floor of the addition will create a new primary school entrance and feature a modern reception area, multipurpose space, common area, concession stand and spirit store. The lower level will house a new fitness facility and the upper level will feature a flexible classroom and library with work stations.
Since work must be completed while school is in session, Wiegmann is working behind barricaded areas of the building and unoccupied floors, as well as completing some work after hours and on weekends. The upcoming holidays and summer break will be critical times for completing a bulk of the work so the school can be ready for the 2020-2021 school year. Wiegmann will coordinate with the city of Brentwood and the neighborhood to close off streets while a crane is set up to install new rooftop equipment.
